Wake Up: Melanie Fiona meets The Illadelphonics

The Illadelphonics remixed Melanie Fiona’s The Bridge album live. A lot of people slept on this shit. It’s extremely dope. Melanie Fiona is a singer from Toronto, Canada… and that is pretty much all I know about her. Be sure to download the full project and stream one of my favorites below.

Wake Up: Amor Jones – Epic Failure

Epic_Failure

Many of you might have heard this album, but if you haven’t you may have been sleeping under a rock. You might be thinking “well if many of us have heard it why is it on a Wake Up post?”. Well, Amor Jones and the CSC have been putting in work. His next album will be entirely produced by the Cosmic Souls Collective and the one after that, called While You Were Sleeping, will be produced by me. So before we go and hit you guys with a ton of new music, check out his last project, Epic Failure, that features 5 CSC produced tracks. 4 by me, 1 by the homie Time Travel. Without this album, there might not have been a Cosmic Souls Collective. Hit more  for the track listing and stream a joint I produced below. Oh yeah, and it’s dope too. Belee daaat!

Wake Up: Beautiful Music, Baby.

Beautiful Music, Baby is a collective of emcees, producers, singers, and artists from the Bay Area down to Los Angeles. They’re make very dope music. I heard about them from going to school in Union City where many of them reside. They are one of the few talented acts from Union City. I used to bump their ish before I even started making music. I haven’t kept up with them much lately because I’ve been busy working on my own projects, but it looks like not much has changed. Music is still dope and they have been pretty consistant. The video below shows them performing two previously unreleased songs at Paddy’s, which is a local cafe in the west (Union City).

Don’t sleep on their releases also. Much like me, they create a ton of free material and it’s up on their bandcamp for free download/stream. You can also check out the rest of their videos on their vimeo page and hit them up on myspace! Tell em Nef sent you.

Wake Up: Dela

dela (1)

Dela is one of my favorite producers from France. I noticed many of my favorite producers are French, like the Jazz Liberatorz and 20Syl. I have been keeping up with Dela’s music alot lately and it’s safe to say he is very consistant. His music is very laid back, my favorite songs from him are ‘The Sag’ featuring Aloe Blacc and ‘Long Life’ featuring Talib Kweli. Make sure you guys visit his myspace page and  buy his album called Changes Of Atmosphere. OR, if you’re cheap, you can download Atmosphere Airlines Vol. 2 for free (via RappersIKnow).

Wake Up: People Under The Stairs

pis

In this age of internet “mixtape” Hip-Hop I don’t see much of these guys getting their turn to shine. I look at most of the sites that people get their music from and it seems like this style of Hip-Hop has been forgotten. They aren’t rapping about how much they love college and don’t have music videos with irrelevant breasts bouncing around so maybe that’s why. These Los Angeles residents are Double K and Thes One, collectively known as People Under The Stairs. They both produce and both emcee so their work is mostly in-house. They released their last album, Fun DMC, in September of 2008 so make sure you guys check that out. Thes One battled Will.I.Am at DJ Dusk’s Root Down Sound Clash beat battle and has to be one of my greatest influences production wise.

You can click more to watch “The Wiz” music video that was recorded on location in Sydney, Australia.
